Hello. My name's Luke Ryan.
I write words.
You may have heard of words – they're all around us. In fact, you're reading words right now! But words needn't be scary or confronting. They can be fun, like the word phlebotomist. Or pretty, like the word phlebotomist.
Over the years I have written words for a number of reputable organisations, including the Saturday Paper, Best Australian Essays, the Guardian, Quartz, Smith Journal, Junkee and many more. I'm yet to have been fired or taken to court, so I presume I'm doing OK. You can find some samples of my work here.
I have also written a book, a comic memoir entitled 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Chemo', about having had cancer at 11 and 22. It's out now through Affirm Press and is funnier than it sounds. I have also edited no less (or more) than two editions of Best Australian Comedy Writing, also with Affirm Press, which are exactly as funny as they sound.
